Swansboro Hanger Party – recap! – by jim burrow

Jeff Jones and I didn’t get to the Party until around 5:00 PM, by that time the party was will on its way. I estimate that there were around 150 people at the party. Thiers was 12 of use from the Sierra RotorCraft Club. (If any of the new members to the club, since July 1st, 2010, where there, I’m sorry we didn’t meet up with you.) The club members – that I’m aware of – present at the party were:

Lois and Ruffin Apperson – Club Historians

Tony and Karen Gillian

Justin and a friend – Toni’s oldest son

Jim Burrow – Communications officer, Secretary, Webmaster and Editor

Jeff Jones – the PRA (Popular RotorCraft Association) Western States Rep

Dan Vandusen – Club Treasurer and his girlfriend, Rita

Rita’s older sister and husband Steve

Although there was only twelve of use, we blended right in with the Pilots Association and the people of Swansboro. Not once did we feel like outcasts, in fact is just the opposite, we felt like part of the family.

Kim and Rob did a fantastic job of hosting the event at their home. In case anyone didn’t know, Swansboro airport is a private field with homes off the runway. Hence you park your plane (rotorcraft) in your driveway.

As far as the food went, they could have feed an army of 500 people. There was so much a verity of food that you could not try a little bit of each plate. I myself, tried my best, but after two big plates, I could get no more down.

Around 8:00 PM, they started ruffling off prizes. There must have been 50 or more items ruffled off. All the money raised from the ruffle goes to the local kids that do well in school as scholarships. What a good cause!

After the ruffle, Kim’s huge hanger was cleared out and the rest of the evening was dancing with a two man (person) live band. For two guys, they made the music sound like a band of 5 or six.

In closing, I would like to thank Kim and Rob and the Swansboro Pilots Association for inviting the sierra RotorCraft club to a very fine event.

I agree. This is the second year that I have attended this event. It keeps getting better and better. The OV10 take off and fly by was impressive.
