Eric Leuty report on AOPA convention on Long Beach CA

Hi Jim
This last week I attended the AOPA convention on Long Beach CA, I attended seminars by Rod Machado (funny stories), Max Trescott (former CFI of the year) on night flying, Sean Tucker (air show pilot) on being prepared, and Barry Schiff on making emergency 180 turns.

There seemed to be less vendors than the last time I attended and the crowd was moderate on Thursday, a little lighter on Friday and pretty busy on Saturday. I also saw a presentation by John & Martha King about being “Busted in Santa Barbara”. They are creating a training program with and for law enforcement agencies to do a better job.

Also seen was Jim Tucker who was one of the pilots attacked by a co-worker on a Fed-ex flight a few years ago. Very interesting story.

Out at the airport were lots of airplanes, including the B-29 “fifi”. The only “swing-wing” craft I saw were from local law enforcement. That was to be expected since the “A” in AOPA really stands for Airplane and not Aircraft.

I had fun seeing some old friends and picked up a bag-o-schwag (aka: goodies). Palm Springs CA 2012 is the next one out here.
