A Reply To PRA About Our Club Membership
The other day I got a phone call from Jeff Jones – PRA Rep for the West Cost – asking about our clubs membership size and is anyone building and or flying there helicopters and Gyro-plans.
I was thinking (and this always gets me into trouble) that the general membership – that’s you – would like to know this information too. So below is my reply back to Jeff.
Hi Jeff! – jim here – Sierra RotorCraft Club
I’ve gone over the “About You” survey in response to you and PRA request. Here are my findings.
- How many members (on mailing list) do we have? – 70 and growing.
- What type of Rotorcraft do they fly? – 19 helicopters and 8 gyro-plans.
- Is anyone building a Rotorcraft? – 12 helicopter and 6 gyro-plans.
- How many are interested in attending club meetings? – 45 yes.
- How many live within 2 hour car drive from Livermore Airport? – 33 live within 2 hours.
So I believe this is what you were asking for – jim
P.S. – So the question is, how do we get these members to start attending club meetings and functions?
How you ask ?,The answer is simple, Meaningful topics, such as who is doing what, safety is always top on the list. Good food, good drinks, and a good simulator. (some dancing girls couldn’t hurt)

good morning Jim, Parks here. I just wanted to say i was really excited when i found a club on the west coast that was all about gyro’s and helicopters. I check my emails and am all ways anxious to see what is going on with anybody in the club, and waiting for a response to anything i have written about, OR what you have written about.
So when I received your email one thought came to my mind, IS EVERYBODY IN HIBERNATION? For the last month i am the only one that i have seen a response from. The only thing i can think of is it is winter, so everybody must be in a cave somewhere, I sure hope out of 70 members a crossed the world there is someone awake somewhere, and doing something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Well, I took and passed my commercial written test with a 90% and will be taking my practical check ride within three weeks. I have contacted helicycle and got on the list for there number 7 run, quit a wait though.
I wrote an email to the property owners for the meet in May last week and offered to cook a pig in ground for everybody, but have not herd anything back as of yet.
Well Jim, I hope everybody is alive and well, chat with you later.
