Directions:

For directions to Jewgo’s hanger, you can view and print this PDF (It has been corrected). In this PDF you will find three photo’s along with written direction to Jewgo’s hanger by Jewgo. Also in this PDF is my comments and direction. I lived within 5 miles of Jewgos hanger for 30 years, before moving to Livermore.

No matter what address you use, they will all get you to jewgo’s hanger.

Note: Do not use Yahoo Map for directions. It is in error and will put you on the other side of the air field. Instead use Google Map.

Also to make it very CLEAR – the meeting is July 30, 2011 starting at 1300 hrs (that’s 1:00 PM PDT) or one hour after “Noon” — just joking around with some guys that got on my case. — editor!

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IF YOU PLAN ON BEING AT THIS MEETING. This really help in planing. thanks.

I need to make it clear about Jewgo’s hanger at the Funny Farm Airstrip or field. Jewgo’s hanger is part of the Funny Farm air-park association. But the paved airstrip is a privet strip and other association members do not have access to it.

What Jewgo has is his own unpaved strip that is used for his Gyro and Helicopter and maybe his untra-light plan. During the winter months, his little strip is too wet for takeoff and landings of any air-craft. Also it is too short for any air plan, even a Cessna 150, to takeoff or land on.

However, he does have a big emty field next to his hanger that is usable for helicopter only and not gyro’s. This field is grass and he keeps it mowed just for helicopter landings and takeoffs. Two years ago, Jon flew his Bell 47 to Jewgo’s hanger and landed in the field with no problems due to weight.

So I hope that clears the confusion up.

By the way, if any of you helicopter guys know of a good newsletter like the RAF Pilots and Gyro Nation Gyronaughts, I would surely like to make links to it. After all, there is over 70 members in the club (online members and active members) in which 19 have helicopters and 6 have gyro-copters including a whole slough of online members interested in gyro-copters.

The other day I got a phone call from Jeff Jones – PRA Rep for the West Cost – asking about our clubs membership size and is anyone building and or flying there helicopters and Gyro-plans.

I was thinking (and this always gets me into trouble) that the general membership – that’s you – would like to know this information too. So below is my reply back to Jeff.

Hi Jeff! – jim here – Sierra RotorCraft Club

I’ve gone over the “About You” survey in response to you and PRA request. Here are my findings.

How many members (on mailing list) do we have? – 70 and growing.

What type of Rotorcraft do they fly? – 19 helicopters and 8 gyro-plans.

Is anyone building a Rotorcraft? – 12 helicopter and 6 gyro-plans.

How many are interested in attending club meetings? – 45 yes.

How many live within 2 hour car drive from Livermore Airport? – 33 live within 2 hours.

So I believe this is what you were asking for – jim

P.S. – So the question is, how do we get these members to start attending club meetings and functions?

During the last two meetings, we took a vote and decided to charge $5.00 per member per year. Will – has the club editor and by default the middleman to most communications between members, have been getting email asking “Why Do We Need Dues”

So I have written a report or article if you will, on this subject. Do to the length of this article, I have put it into a PDF for your better viewing. here’s the link to Editors Editorial On Club Dues PDF.

Please Note – after reading this article, please come back to this page and leave your comments in the reply area of this post. It will be helpful to the clubs president and the board of directors to get your option to this matter and what would you do.

My Membership

I am very happy about your contact by my name. It tells me that you have adopted me as a real Rotorway enthusiast. Here’s a brief note about me.

I am from Finland 58 years old male and since I was a small bastard I have always been drawing helicopters. My mind and my soul consist about helicopters.

Once when I got some money from ex Jugoslavia, I flew to San Francisco and went to Concord air field (Buchanan airport) for Helicopter Adventures. I flew some 55 hours with Schweitzer but failed on written.

I spent two months in Finland and went to Fort Lauderdale flying with R 22. My 22 years old instructor was very nervous about me and about the reputation of his school if I fail. I said; relax if I clear the written license is mine.

I have to admit that the FAA guy was a really good person but he gave me hard time. That was only because I am not a native speaker. After my check ride my T-shirt was quite wet.

That was a quick reply and I will write you and to the club pretty soon.

Best regards Veikko.

Hi Jim, Parks here. I was wondering If you would include my 3rd annual Young Eagles flyin on June 30, @ 8am in Weaverville (O54) to the calendar of events 2012. We are looking for Pilots and static displays, heli or gyro, and even airplanes.

I have contacted US Coast Guard, CHP, Local Medivac, National Guard and hoping they will bring there heli’s to show. Note if you are planning on flying Young Eagles, you have to be a National EAA member. All information is on the EAA website under Young Eagle events. Thank you and hope 2012 in the best year ever for all, and hoping to see you in Weaverville..

Happy New Year Greetings to the SRC Membership!

1 January 2012

I want to thank all the SRC members for their trust and confidence in me, and have voted to allow me the pleasure of leading the club for the coming year. Also, congratulations to Gerry Noland, the new vice-president, Jim Burrow, the new secretary, and Mike Woolson, who has graciously volunteered to remain as the treasurer for another year. They and the board members are very important to keep the club operating successfully.

I suspect everyone is recuperating from the holiday travels and activities, and will be doing so in various degrees for the coming weeks. This prompts me to think that January 2012 may be too soon to have a club meeting. February 2012 may be a safer bet.

Information from Jim Burrow indicated he needs some extra time to solve a financial problem. I also need extra time to complete my upgrade to a 4-seat Cessna-172 plus renew my private pilot certificate after which I will have the FAA’s blessing to fly my airplane and gyrocopter.

The plan is to trailer my gyro to either the Tracy Airport or Rio Vista Airport where the runways are longer for safety. But the prep and test work will be done at my air-ranch. The 40′ x 24′ apron I recently installed will make the workplace atmosphere more comfortable. Gyro enthusiasts such as Jerry Pierce, Richard Greyeagle, and the Iverson’s will be able to get close and personal to a gyro if we combine the prep with a meeting day. Any suggestions from them or other enthusiasts are very welcome. Also still in the plan is to have our club gyro CFI Jon, give us some pointers and rides. Hopefully, Mother Nature will not interfere as she did last year with all her precipitation.

The club’s helicopter simulator will continue to be upgraded now that funds for the parts and materials are available. Most importantly, our simulator hardware expert, Mike Woolson, has expressed a desire to continue his magic touch on it so the SRC club members can enjoy practicing their helicopter driver skills as soon as he finishes.

In addition, the club supports other events which may be of interest to the membership such as: Central Sierra Helicopter Meet from 4-6 May 12, Swansboro Air Park BBQ on 11 Aug 12, Rio Vista Air and Wheels Day on 7 Oct 12, SRC Annual Christmas Party on 15 Dec 12, and any other outings the club members may vote to attend.

As always, we welcome any ideas or suggestions the club members may have. You can contact our site web master or use the “key to my door” which is “jewgo@netzero.com”.

John writes in response to the Western Sierra Helicopter Meet coming up the last weekend of May:

John writes – The event you are referring to in May, does everybody camp out or how does it work? I am interested in attending if my schedule will allow. I will visit the web site you sent me and thank you for keeping me posted. The company I rent the heli from has an R66 in Mammoth, they just took it down 3 weeks ago to fly tours, but unfortunately the lack of snow has not been kind to the tour business, but I may be able to fly it in, in may, i am sure there are some people that haven’t seen one yet as there are few on the west coast, but if not I will fly down a R44 if I can make it.

**** – ****

John also writes in response to “Tell Us A Little Bit About You” survey that is part of the automated “welcome to the club” email series.

John writes – In response the scorpion 1, I my son and I would love to finish building it, he is 14 years old and has just finished his 5th lesson and was able to hold a hover for the first time. We have a machine and welding shop and are well versed in mechanical theory, this would be right up are alley. We would love to help or take on the project. Let me know how we can get involved.

**** – ****

Editors Comments:

As you all should know by now, the club has two projects to work on. The first one is the club helicopter simulator in which we have been working on for about three years. We did not work on it all last year due to funding problems.

The other project, which we haven’t started yet, is a Rotorway Scorpion I helicopter. This helicopter belongs to Jewgo Min and he has offered it to the club as a project.
